Professor Martin Reixinger
Martin Riexinger has been Associate Professor in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Aarhus University in Denmark since 2010. His PhD from Freiburg University in Germany (2001) explored a religious group from the Punjab called the Ahl-l Hadith movement, and it was the internal debates within this movement about the appropriate response to post-Copernican astronomy that drew Martin's attention to the reception of modern science in the Islamic World. He went on to submit his Habilitationsschrift at Gottingen University (2009), focusing on a major figure in modern debates surrounding science and Islam - Said Nursi from Turkey (d. 1960). Martin has worked particularly on the development of Nursi's ideas by his followers and the emergence of Islamic creationism since his death.
